HL Deb 07 June 1945 vol 136 c514WA
LORD BARNBY

asked His Majesty's Government whether in view of the report in the Press of the conclusions arrived at by the Inter-Empire Conference on Wool Policy, and the importance of this on the large wool holdings of the Treasury, also the possible reaction on impending legislation in the United States of America on which wool policy must have so strong an influence—

  1. (a) They will consider the advisability of making forthwith a more authoritative announcement;
  2. (b) Whether it is to be understood that this is to be regarded as a development of a considered policy with regard to products of which His Majesty's Government is a large holder of which it is understood announcements on meat and cocoa have given indications.

LORD TEMPLEMORE

The Conference which has just concluded was one of officials and experts charged with making recommendations to their respective Governments. Until the Governments of the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa have had an opportunity of considering the Report of the Conference, no statement can be made as to the conclusions reached.

House adjourned at half-past five o'clock.
