MorrisonThe question whether a firearm certificate should be renewed, and, if so, whether the holder of the fire-984W arm should be allowed to possess ammunition also, is a matter for decision by the chief officer of police in accordance with the circumstances of the individual case. It is usual for permission to have ammunition to be withheld unless the possessor of the firearm can satisfy the police that he really needs to use it. No compensation is payable in cases where renewal of a certificate is refused; but the person concerned is, I understand, usually given opportunity to dispose of the firearm or ammunition to a registered dealer.
