§ Sir C. Edwardsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that the Report of the compensation secretary to the South Wales Miners' Federation states that there were nearly 3,000 miners suffering from pneumoconiosis and waiting for a medical board; and what steps are being taken to increase these boards so as to deal with this very serious state of affairs.
§ Mr. H. MorrisonI am aware that there are a very large number of South Wales coalminers claiming to be suffering from pneumoconiosis who are awaiting examination by the Medical Board. In recent months four additional doctors have been added to the Medical Board in South Wales, making eight in all, with a view of expediting the examinations, and this number should be sufficient to deal with the normal number of applications.
