HC Deb 02 February 1945 vol 407 cc1750-1W
Rear-Admiral Beamish

asked the Minister of Food what progress has been made under the powers given to him under Regulation 55G (S.R. & O., 1944, No. 65), towards providing a safer milk supply; and whether, having regard to the fact that a large number of areas have for a long time past adopted rationalised system of delivery, he will, at an early date, specify any of those areas within the meaning of the Regulation.

Colonel Llewellin

In accordance with paragraph 28 of the White Paper, "Measures to improve the quality of the Nation's milk supply" (Cmd. 6454), the Dairymen's War-time Associations in the 621 rationalised areas in England and Wales were asked to prepare plans for organising the milk supplies in their areas to comply with the requirements of Defence Regulation 55G. Schemes covering 181 areas have so far been submitted and are under examination, while schemes for a further 242 areas are in course of preparation by the Associations concerned. It will not be practicable to specify particular areas until further progress is made in the examination of the schemes, which involves substantial technical building and transport considerations.
