HC Deb 17 December 1945 vol 417 cc1079-80W
Mr. P. Freeman

asked the Minister of Agriculture the output of carrots produced in this country in 1914, 1924, 1934 and 1944; and, in view of the growing recognition of their dietetic value, what steps are being taken to augment the output.

Mr T. Williams

The acreage under carrots in England and Wales in the years mentioned, has been:

1934 10,768
1924 10,746
1934 16,432
1944 35,225

With regard to the second part of the Question, the present acreage is substantially larger than the pre-war acreage, and is regarded as adequate to meet requirements.
