§ Mr. G. Williamsasked the Minister of Agriculture whether, in view of the recent statistics published as to the increased agricultural output of Great Britain during the war years, he will now give an estimate of the value of the annual output per head of those engaged in agriculture in this country and indicate how those figures compare with.the annual value of the output per head of workers in other main industries in the country such as coalmining and cotton.
§ Mr. T. WilliamsI am afraid that this information is not available. While, as the hon. and gallant Member points out, the value of agricultural output is known, considerable difficulty attaches to making an estimate of man-equivalents employed in an industry of which a large part of the labour force consists of women, casual workers, prisoners of war, and various categories of unpaid labour.
