HC Deb 11 December 1945 vol 417 c354W
Mr. Hogg

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he has considered the complaint of the Oxford Public Health Committee concerning the want of cooperation by his Department in the matter of a public nuisance by grit and smoke from premises of which he is aware; and why the request for a deputation has not been acceded to.

Mr. Shinwell

I regret that a decision on this matter has been delayed. I am advised that this was essentially a technical matter for examination on the spot, and no useful purpose could have been served by the council bringing a deputation to London. My Regional Combustion Engineer has been making the necessary investigations at the premises concerned and it is now understood that on his recommendation the firm are now installing a grit arrestor. It is expected that the alterations will be finished within few weeks, when my engineer will make a further visit.
