HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 cc426-7W
Mr. Lipson

asked the President of the Board of Education whether the new district committees for education to be set up will, in appropriate instances, be given the power to levy the education rate for the area for which they are responsible?

Mr. Butler

This was not contemplated in the original proposals. My hon. Friend will be aware that the Government's final decisions will not be made available until they have had full opportunity of considering public reactions to the White Paper plan.

Mr. Graham White

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is now able to say when he hopes to be in a position to introduce legislation to give effect to the proposals in the White Paper on Education?

Mr. Butler

I will inform the House when the Government is in a position to carry the educational reforms outlined in the White Paper to their logical conclusion. The intervening time is being most valuably spent in considering suggested improvements of the plan.
