HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 cc416-7W
Mr. Leach

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will take steps to put a stop to the practice of a certain firm, of which he has been informed, who keep horses for vivisection purposes in the neighbourhood of Runcorn and Frodsham and allow them to graze in fields used also by cows which feed on the grass impregnated with the pus dropped from the sores and incisions of the horses; and is he aware of the complaints made by land girls who work on the same farms?

Mr. Hudson

The horses to which the hon. Member's question refers are used for serum production purposes and not for vivisection. They do not graze in fields occupied by other animals. I have been unable to obtain any evidence of complaints by land girls working on the farms in question.
