HC Deb 23 September 1943 vol 392 c422W
Major Lyons

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the feeling against the attitude of his Department that the duties of housewives form no part of the war effort; and whether, in view of the proposed registration of the upper age groups of women, he will issue instructions to the contrary to all concerned?

Mr. Bevin

I am not aware of any such attitude on the part of my Department. Existing instructions provide that full account should be taken of household duties in assessing the amount of other work, if any, which a woman is called upon to do.
