HC Deb 28 October 1943 vol 393 cc390-1W
Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether the Northern Rhodesian Government proposes to secure the Native Trust Land Ordinance; and what steps are being taken to conclude the work of the Land Commission?

Colonel Stanley

The preparation of the Order in Council required to give legal sanction to the new land policy is proceeding concurrently with the work of the Land Commissions. This is being carried out as rapidly as circumstances permit and a third Commission has just been appointed to deal with the Northern Province. As I stated in my reply to the hon. Member for the English Universities (Mr. Harvey) on 1st June, a copy of which is being sent to the hon. Member, re-settlement of Africans is proceeding in areas which it is already known are to become native trust land.
