HC Deb 13 October 1943 vol 392 cc904-5W
Dr. Little

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he will withdraw the Order whereby suppliers of Communion wine are prohibited from sending supplies to Northern Ireland until after the war, as this interferes with the observance of Holy Communion and is resented by members of the Church?

Mr. Mabane

The importation of wines and spirits into Northern Ireland, as into other parts of the United Kingdom, is a necessary part of the general system of import control. Arrangements, however, are made by my Department with the intention of securing that a sufficient supply of Communion wine is available in Northern Ireland to meet the requirements of the Churches. If my hon. Friend will let me have particulars of any Church in Northern Ireland which is receiving insufficient supplies I shall be glad to look into the matter.
