HC Deb 13 October 1943 vol 392 c897W
Lady Apsley

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether he has instructed all local authorities to grant the use of British Restaurant premises under their charge to duly qualified voluntary societies for the purpose of providing entertainments, socials and dances in the evenings, especially where there are service men and women and evacuated industrial workers in the locality and no other suitable buildings are available?

Mr. Mabane

No. As the operation of British Restaurants is the responsibility of local authorities, it is for them to decide, according to local circumstances and subject to any agreements with owners of premises, the use to which the premises shall be put when not required for British Restaurant purposes.
