HC Deb 12 October 1943 vol 392 cc740-1W
Mr. Brooke

asked the President of the Board of Education what is his attitude towards local education authorities revising their income scales for scholarship awards to take into account wartime conditions; and to what extent have these income scales, in fact, been revised?

Mr. Butler

My Department is ready to consider favourably any reasonable proposals from local education authorities for revising the income scale for scholarships at secondary schools and and other educational institutions to meet wartime conditions. Most authorities have in fact already modified their scales, and in some instances more than one adjustment has taken place during the period of the war.
