HC Deb 12 October 1943 vol 392 c740W
Mr. Astor

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he has considered representations regarding the promotion and status of retired warrant officers and commissioned officers from warrant rank; and whether he has any statement to make on this matter?

Mr. Alexander

Yes, Sir. An order has been issued making it clear that these officers may be recommended for promotion to acting higher rank in accordance with general naval practice. As regards their status, like other retired officers they normally take rank and command in accordance with the rank they held on the Active List, but arrangements exist whereby in appropriate cases these officers may be granted the higher status of the retired rank they actually hold.
