Mr. Creech Jonesasked the Minister of Health, whether his attention has been 917W drawn to the refusal of certain local authorities to make up war service pay although decisions by the National Arbitration Tribunal have awarded some proportion of such pay; whether he is aware that certain authorities have expressed their resentment at being required to put into force something that was regarded as discretionary under the Local Government Staff (War Service) Act, 1939; and whether he contemplates legislation to restore to the local authorities discretion in this matter?
§ Mr. E. BrownNo, Sir. I am unable to add to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour and National Service to my hon. and gallant Friend the Member for Accrington (Major Procter) on the 18th February last.
