Major Millsasked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware of the Home Guard cases dismissed by the bench of magistrates at Christchurch, Hants, in October last, details of which were sent to him by the hon. and gallant Member for New Forest and Christchurch at the time; and whether he will now cause the rules relating to the compulsory transfer of men above registration age who voluntarily joined the Home Guard to be promulgated in an A.C.I. or in such other form as may be advisable, so that the true position may be capable of easy proof in a court of petty sessions?
§ Sir J. GriggA man enrolling in the Home Guard is enrolled in the force as a whole and not for service with any particular unit, and I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the replies given to my hon. Friends the Members for Penryn and Falmouth (Major Petherick) and for York (Mr. Wood) on 22nd June and 7th December. The position is generally well known and understood by those concerned, but in order to avoid any misunderstanding, I am considering whether some instruction on the lines suggested by my hon. and gallant Friend should be issued.
