HC Deb 04 August 1943 vol 391 c2311W
Mr. David Adams

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware that life-long tenants upon the privately-owned properties on the Shantaunce, Cedar Valley and other estates in Portland, Jamaica, have received notice to quit their holdings on the grounds that the Government desire the owners to rear cattle instead; and whether, as the demand for continued food crops is urgent, he will support the local demand that this property be acquired for land settlement and the existing tenancies continued?

Colonel Stanley

I am asking the Governor for a report on this matter.
