HC Deb 04 August 1943 vol 391 cc2321-2W
Mr. Rhys Davies

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works whether he is aware that officers of his Department are threatening to remove the railings round the Welsh Baptist Church, Upper Brook Street, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester; that the estimated cost of replacing them is about £600, and that the income likely to be received from the present railings is about £20; and whether, in view of the annoyance to worshippers by noises from the streets by the removal, he will consider allowing these railings to stand?

Mr. Hicks

Representations were made about this case last March and it was then decided that short lengths of railings at the corners of Upper Brook Street and at the rear of the Church should be retained. I have had the case re-examined in the light of further representations and for the present I am not proposing to disturb the railings round the Church.
