§ Sir H. Williamsasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Works and Planning why his Department has requisitioned certain occupied houses on one side of Eaton Square, having regard to the fact that approximately 90 per cent. of the houses on that side are unoccupied and therefore could be requisitioned without disturbance to existing tenancies?
§ Mr. HicksThe selection of houses is determined by the accommodation requirements of the staffs to be housed. It is convenient to take houses immediately adjacent with a. view to precluding excessive dispersal of staff. Efforts are made to avoid taking occupied houses but occasionally this cannot be avoided. The houses taken over in Eaton Square have not been recently occupied except by caretakers.
