HC Deb 30 September 1942 vol 383 cc806-7W
Wing-Commander Grant-Ferris

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps are taken to ensure that all available tractors are in constant use for ploughing this autumn; and whether they can be moved from district to district in view of the varying urgent need for their services?

Mr. Hudson

It is the policy of my Department to enable and encourage farmers to work their tractors to the fullest possible extent and to supplement the activities of farmers and ploughing contractors by the operation of tractors belonging to the Ministry and under the control of the county war agricultural executive committees. The flow of new tractors is directed so far as possible into those districts which have the greatest need of them, and the number of tractors under the control of county war agricultural executive committees is under constant review in order to secure that the tractors are put to work where they are most needed.
