HC Deb 30 September 1942 vol 383 c806W
Miss Rathbone

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the fact that the cost of living is about equivalent in Palestine and the United Kingdom, and that the present rates of separation allowances for the Palestinian forces are now only two-thirds of the present British rates of which an increase has been promised, the separation allowances for wives and children of men in the Palestinian Forces will be increased?

Mr. A. Henderson

The rates of family allowance for the Palestinian forces were reviewed in February of this year and increased to two-thirds of the British rates. They will be proportionately further increased shortly to the extent of two-thirds of the recent increases promised in the British rates.

Miss Rathbone

asked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the fact that there are at present no allowances for dependants other than wives and children of the members of the Palestinian Forces and that many of the Palestinian Jews have parents in Palestine wholly dependent on them, and that there is no old age pension system in Palestine, dependants' allowances at British rates will be instituted?

Mr. Henderson

This question is now under consideration.
