HC Deb 08 September 1942 vol 383 c47W
Sir C. Edwards

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that Mr. L. Williams, 21, Sunny View, Argoed, Monmouthshire, is an old age pensioner and, having no private means, was awarded the full supplementary grant of 9s. 6d. but, when he applied for the 2s. 6d. increase just awarded, he was refused by the officer of the area office, Ebbw Vale; and, in view of the intention that this 2s. 6d. should be applied automatically to persons without any means except the full pension, will he make inquiries into this case?

Mr. E. Brown

I have been asked to reply. I am having inquiries made about the particular case mentioned by my hon. Friend and will let him have a reply as soon as possible. In view, however, of the terms of the Question, I would like to make it clear that the additional 2s. 6d. recently granted to supplementary pensioners is by no means restricted to those who have no means beyond their pensions.
