HC Deb 22 October 1942 vol 383 cc2142-3W
Mr. Wilson

asked the Attorney-General whether he is aware that at Cambridge, on the 15th October, Mr. Justice Humphries imposed a fine of £500 upon Sir William Prescott, the chairman of the Tottenham Bench of Magistrates and, in doing so, indicated that the offence had been the disregard of a regulation the main purpose of which must have been know to everybody who owns a motorcar; and whether, under these circumstances, Sir William Prescott will be permitted to continue to hold his office?

The Attorney-General

My Noble Friend is aware of the conviction of Sir William Prescott referred to in the Question of the hon. Member. He has called for a full report of the proceedings before Mr. Justice Humphries. Until that report has been received and considered by him he will not be in a position to make any statement.
