HC Deb 06 October 1942 vol 383 cc1089-90W
Major Lyons

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether his attention has been called to an advertisement, particulars whereof have been sent him, offering self-drive motor-cars without restriction in an area of 314 square miles; and, in view of this wastage of petrol under prevailing conditions, whether he will now take measures adequately to control this system of hiring with petrol so as to prevent all unnecessary use?

Major Lloyd George

Yes, Sir. If my hon. and gallant Friend will be good enough to divide the figure quoted by[...] and take the square root of the resulting figure, he will see that the radius of the circle does not exceed the limits laid down in the Motor Fuel (Hire Service) Order, 1942. The Order came into force on 1st September, and I propose to await experience of its operation before considering its revision.
