HC Deb 26 November 1942 vol 385 cc899-900W
Sir A. Gridley

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that the Stockport Military Hardship Committee have rejected the appeal of Miss Selby, of 1, Crosby Street, Stockport, the only daughter left to do all the domestic work for a family of eight; that the father is 72 years of age; that the mother is 61 and suffering from severe heart trouble; that four daughters, without outside help, are running a food supply and bakery business on which the family depends; that four sons are in the Forces; and what action he proposes to take in this case?

Mr. Bevin

I am having inquiries made and will communicate with my hon. Friend, but I should point out that these Hardship Committees are independent tribunals.
