HC Deb 26 November 1942 vol 385 c900W
Mr. E. Walkden

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that Harry Woodford Mellor, of Whitfield Bank Farm, Glossop, Derbyshire, who chose the alternative of 10 months imprisonment to paying a fine of £13,000 when convicted at Bow Street, London, on 12th November 1942, for failing to offer 35,821 United States dollars for sale to the Treasury, bought a farm after war broke out; and whether he is satisfied this man is a bona fide farmer or whether steps will be taken to annul his occupational reservation under the Armed Forces and National Service Acts?

Mr. Bevin

I am making inquiries in this case and will write to my hon. Friend.
