HC Deb 10 November 1942 vol 383 c2296W
Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can make a statement on the arrest of trade union officials in Jamaica; and what contravention of the trade union law of that Colony has occurred?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

The Governor of Jamaica has detained under the Jamaica Defence Regulations the following persons:

  • Richard Hart,
  • Arthur Henry,
  • Frank Hill, and
  • Ken Hill.

This action has been taken not because the persons in question are trade union leaders but on the ground that they have been engaging in subversive activities.
