HC Deb 10 November 1942 vol 383 c2296W
Mr. Sorensen

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is aware of the protests made in Jamaica and elsewhere against statements made by the Governor of Jamaica respecting economic conditions and political aspirations; and whether adequate plans are being considered to meet not only present emergencies, but also the future development of the Colony?

Mr. Harold Macmillan

I have not seen the statements and protests referred to. The Governor is taking all possible steps to deal with the situation which has arisen as a result of war conditions and the shortage of shipping. Long-term plans of development are being drawn up in consultation with the Comptroller for Development and Welfare in the West Indies.
