HC Deb 04 June 1942 vol 380 cc831-2W
Sir A. Baillie

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food whether, in view of the fact that this year's crop of soft fruit is expected to be the heaviest for some years and of the anxiety felt by farmers at the likelihood of much of the crop being allowed to perish, he will make an immediate statement as to the exact arrangements he has made to dispose of all surplus fruit, after supplying canners and jam manufacturers, in order to allay the anxiety of both the farmers and the general public?

Major Lloyd George

The public has already been granted facilities for obtaining additional sugar for preserving fruit this season. No further arrangements are being made to dispose of the balance of soft fruits after the requirements of the jam manufacturers and canners have been met, as it is anticipated that there will be an adequate demand from the public for these fruits.
