HC Deb 04 February 1942 vol 377 cc1198-9W
Mr. E. Walkden

asked the Home Secretary whether he has been able to locate any of the offenders who have stolen in recent weeks 260 sheep from the Yorkshire moors; and whether he is satisfied that he has sufficient competent inspectors or investigators in the area to cope with this menace?

Mr. Peake

I have seen a newspaper story that 260 sheep have been stolen from three Yorkshire moors, but inquiry of the police of the three Ridings shows that in the last twelve months the only cases known are the theft in September of two sheep by a farm labourer who was detected and convicted, and the theft in January of one sheep in circumstances which have not yet been cleared up.
