§ Mr. Windsorasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the concern arising in the minds of many people in cases under the Essential Work Order where workpeople have been discharged and, on appeal, have been redirected to their former employment, but employers have refused to re-employ them; and what action he proposes to take that will compel such employers to carry out their obligations?
2110W
§ Mr. BevinI am glad to say that the number of cases in which employers do not readily comply with directions to reinstate workers is very small. Such cases as do occur, however, cause me much concern since I attach great importance to the smooth working of the Essential Work Orders being facilitated by both employers and workers honouring their obligations under them. I shall continue to take proceedings against offending employers in suitable cases and I have instructed my officers to watch the situation closely.
