HC Deb 16 December 1942 vol 385 c1955W
Sir P. Hurd

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food what information he has as to the effect upon human fertility of the removal or inadequate replacement of vitamin E in the bread now in general consumption?

Mr. Mabane

I am advised that experts are not in agreement regarding the influence of vitamin E on human fertility. Vitamin E is a natural constituent of the germ of wheat. Having regard to the steps now being taken to ensure that national wheatmeal flour and bread contain as much of the germ as possible, there are no grounds for regarding the bread in general consumption at the present time as inadequate in respect of this vitamin.
