asked the Minister of Labour whether he is now able to state the result of his consultation with the National Maritime Board concerning the ratification by the British Government of the following conventions: Placing of Seamen, 1920, Repatriation of Seamen, 1926, Officers' Competency Certificates, 1936, Holidays with Pay (Sea), 1936, Shipowners' Liability (Sick and Injured Seamen), 1936, Sickness Insurance (Sea), 1936, Hours of Work and Manning (Sea), 1936, and Minimum Age (Sea) (Revised), 1936.

A meeting with the National Maritime Board has recently taken place, in accordance with the resolution of the Joint Maritime Commission, at which the application of the principles of these Conventions and the questions arising in regard to their ratification were discussed. The views expressed at this meeting are now under the consideration of my right hon. Friend the Minister of War Transport and myself.
