HC Deb 04 August 1942 vol 382 cc865-6W
Mr. Hewlett

asked the Secretary of State for War how many premises requisitioned by the Army have been either not used at all or only occasionally used; and whether rents have none the less been paid in respect of all such places?

Sir J. Grigg

The figures asked for in the first part of the Question are not available. It is my Department's policy only to requisition premises against known commitments and explicit instructions have been given that premises which it is known will not be wanted for future military use shall be derequisitioned. Claims under the Compensation (Defence) Act, 1939, in respect of requisitioned premises not in fact occupied by the Army are accepted unless the claimant has in fact occupied the premises himself during the period of requisition.
