§ Sir W. Smithersasked the Home Secretary what were his reasons for forbidding the Duke of Bedford to visit Eire?
§ Mr. H. MorrisonThe Duke of Bedford has not, in fact, applied for an exit permit for the purpose of travelling to Ireland since February 1940, but as I explained during the Debate on the 21st October last, I should not feel justified in granting an exit permit to him if he applied for one. I do not think it would be right to give any facilities for travel to Ireland to a person who propagates views described by the Lord Chancellor as "utterly irresponsible and completely pestilential."
