HC Deb 21 March 1940 vol 358 c2142W
Mr. Boyce

asked the Home Secretary whether a recent inspection has been made of air-raid shelters provided in dangerous areas by private firms for their manual and clerical staffs; and whether he is satisfied that adequate provision has now been made for their protection?

Sir J. Anderson

It has not been possible to inspect all the shelters provided in accordance with Part III of the Civil Defence Act. The returns made under the Act are, however, accompanied by plans which enable the shelters to be approved in most cases without inspection. The full provision of shelters contemplated by the Act has not yet been reached, but very satisfactory progress has been made.
