asked the First Lord of the Admiralty how many of the officers who, during the last 18 years have held the appointments of captain of the "Vernon," captain of the "Excellent," director of torpedoes and mining, director of naval ordnance have, in each category, been promoted to flag rank and have been, respectively, employed on the active list in that rank or retired on promotion, but employed or retired on promotion and not subsequently employed?

Number promoted to Flag Rank and employed on active list in that rank. Number retired on promotion to Rear-Admiral.

* Four of these officers have been re-employed on the active list since the outbreak of war.
