HC Deb 21 February 1940 vol 357 cc1377-8W
Mr. Alexander

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether he can now give the latest complete information regarding the results of action against enemy submarines?

Mr. Churchill

The House is aware from my previous statements on this subject that our successes against the U-boats have been greater than had been foreseen. Results must, of course, vary from week to week as the enemy intensifies his campaign against the merchant fleets of the world or withdraws his U-boats for reflection, recuperation or repair. The successes of recent weeks have, however, shown that the rate of weekly sinkings which I gave the House in December last was in no way exaggerated.
