§ Mr. Grovesasked the Minister of Health whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction which exists in the medical profession with the Central Medical War Committee in their allocation of appointments; and 44W whether he will investigate the approval of the allocation in September last, of Dr. Farquharson to the post of civilian medical practitioner at Fulwood barracks and his subsequent reference from the Central Medical War Committee to the local committee, then to the medical officer of health and the regional medical officer and finally to the director of medical services, Western Command, with a view to remedying this unnecessary duplication and inefficiency?
Mr. M. MacDonaldI do not agree with the implication in the first part of the hon. Member's Question. I understand that the second part refers to the nomination of a practitioner for civil employment by the War Office and is, therefore, not a matter with which my Department is concerned.
§ Mr. Grovesasked the Minister of Health the number of circulars sent to medical practitioners in London inviting them to apply for appointments as medical examiners at the time of evacuation; how many applications were received; and how many medical practitioners were appointed?
Mr. MacDonaldAbout 1,500 circulars were sent out by the Central Medical War Committee. About 500 applications were received and were forwarded to the London County Council who eventually employed 192 of the applicants.
