HC Deb 21 November 1939 vol 353 cc1042-3W
50. Mr. R. Taylor

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the amount of any of the money which stands to the credit of the Treasury Pensions Account up to the latest available date?

Sir J. Simon

Receipts into the Treasury Pensions Account have exceeded payments to 31st October, 1939, by £23.753ooo This sum is invested in Government securities to a nominal amount of £23,919,000 and the present market value of these securities is approximately £24,929,000. This sum is not surplus to the requirements of the Pensions scheme but constitutes a provision towards the excess of the cost of benefits over the income from contributions and Exchequer grant over the next seven years or so.
