HC Deb 21 November 1939 vol 353 cc1046-7W
Mr. Parker

asked the Minister of Health whether arrangements have been made to heat, waterproof, and otherwise service summer camps now occupied by evacuees; and what steps are taken to inspect such buildings?

Miss Horsbrugh

Instructions were given immediately evacuation had taken place for the inspection by my housing inspectors in the regions concerned of all camps occupied by children, to determine whether they were, or could be made, suitable for winter occupation. Authority was given to the inspectors to agree with representatives of the local authority on the spot what improvements were necessary and to have them put in hand forthwith. Improvements have been carried out, or are in process, at 12 or more of the camps. It has been decided that 12 should be vacated and alternative accommodation found for the children. Three camps remain to be vacated. Two of them will move next Saturday.
