HC Deb 02 November 1939 vol 352 cc2114-5W
Mr. J. Morgan

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether a register is being kept of neglected or derelict estates, with a view to acquisition for agricultural wartime purposes; and whether any orders have been issued under the Defence of the Realm Act to acquire such estates for such purposes, and the acreage involved?

Sir R. Dorman-Smith

County War Agricultural Executive Committees report to the Ministry cases where in their opinion it is necessary to exercise the powers delegated to them to take possession of under-cultivated land (including buildings) for the purpose of increasing the food supply of the country. My consent is required and has been given in four such cases comprising a total area of 427 acres. Other applications are under consideration.
