§ Mr. Thorne
asked the Minister of Shipping how many merchant ships make use of the life-saving jacket; and whether he is aware that many lives have been saved at sea where they have been in use?
§ Sir J. Gilmour
The Merchant Shipping (Life-Saving Appliances) Rules, 1938, require approved life jackets sufficient in number for all persons on board to be provided in all sea-going ships except small launches and motor boats carrying passengers near the shore. The answer to the second part of this question is in the affirmative.
