HC Deb 02 November 1939 vol 352 cc2138-9W
Mr. De la Bére

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he will state the price of the 2-lb. white loaf and the 4-lb. white loaf in the provinces; the date when the last increase in price in the provinces was sanctioned, together with the amount; and give the same information for London?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

The Ministry of Food is at present continuing the arrangements made by the Food Council with regard to bread prices. A price is fixed for the 4-lb. loaf in London. Some provincial areas follow the changes made in London but many do not and bread prices in the provinces vary considerably. The last increase of price in London was from 7½d. to 8d. per 4-lb. loaf on 25th September, 1939.
