§ Mr. Whiteasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has any statement to make regarding further gifts from the Malay States towards the cost of Empire Defence?
Mr. M. MacDonaldYes, Sir. His Highness the Sultan of Trengganu has offered to His Majesty's Government the sum of $50,000 and His Highness the Sultan of Brunei has offered the sum of $100,000 as free gifts towards the cost of Imperial Defence. These gifts have been gratefully accepted by His Majesty's Government; and I take this opportunity of recording the Government's warm appreciation of these further generous manifestations of the practical co-operation of the Rulers of the Malay States in consolidating the security of the Empire.
