§ Colonel Wedgwoodasked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what has happened to the 748 illegal emigrants who surrendered to the police recently at Gaza, where they are interned, and how many are women and children?
Mr. M. MacDonaldSeven hundred and twelve illegal immigrants were apprehended on the steam vessel "Marsis" which was seized by a police patrol near Gaza on the 28th June. They were temporarily detained, some at Haifa and some at Sarafand, and all have now been released except 21 persons who are detained for further interrogation. The party included 198 women and 57 children. The whole number will be deducted from the next quota of legal immigrants.
