HC Deb 12 December 1939 vol 355 c1047W
Sir A. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will consider the possiblity of an issue of gum boots to men in France, as in some units as many as 50 per cent. Of the men have been forced to purchase them out of their own pocket?

Sir V. Warrender

I do not know of any such units. Some scores of thousands of pairs of gum boots have been despatched to France, and should, I am informed, be sufficient to meet all requirements for the present.
