HC Deb 03 April 1939 vol 345 c2465W
Mr. Harvey

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he will state the number of children aged 10 and under 11 on the registers of the public elementary schools in London on 31st March, 1937, and the percentage of these children which entered grant-aided secondary schools during the year ended July, 1938?

Mr. Lindsay

The Board's records do not enable me to answer the hon. Member's question precisely. The number of pupils aged 10 and under 11 on the registers of public elementary schools in the administrative county of London on 31st March, 1937, was 47,050, some of whom may not have resided in London. During the school year ended 31st July, 1938, 5,222 ex-public elementary school pupils resident in London, or 11.1 per cent. of 47,050, were admitted to secondary schools on the grant list.
