HC Deb 26 November 1937 vol 329 c1572W
Sir R. Glyn

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will consider the withdrawal from circulation of all stamps other than those bearing the effigy of His present Majesty; and whether he is aware that in country post offices the stock of books of stamps consists mainly of the issue printed immediately after the death of His late Majesty King George V?

Major Tryon

Preparations for the issue of new postage stamps occupy much time, and while the matter is being pressed forward as fast as technical and other considerations permit, some time must elapse before the series of stamps of the new reign is complete. First consideration was given to the ½d., 1d., 1½d. and 2½d. stamps: these have already been issued and all previous issues withdrawn, except as regards stamp machine rolls and books of stamps. The books of stamps on sale will after Monday next consist exclusively of the new issues.
